PRESS RELEASE

A Meeting of Morton & Hanthorpe Parish Council was held in the Church Hall, Morton on Tuesday 22 June

During the Public Forum Mr. Lewis of The Old School in the High Street, Morton asked the Parish Council to consider a proposal, to remove the bus shelter, owned by the parish, near his entrance, at his expense, and allow him to replace it with a slightly smaller shelter further back on the path, between two proposed new entrances to his site.

At the commencement of the Council Meeting

The Clerk reported that he had received a letter from Lincoln Co-op saying preparations are in progress to make a full survey of the Kings Head site and that discussions were ongoing with the planning and Highways authorities. It was unlikely that any proposals would be available for presentation to the village before autumn.

The audit return for the year ending 31 March 2010 has been submitted to the external auditors, Clement Keys.

A new public notice board, provided by the Parish Council, has been erected in Station Road and is in use. A new seat has been installed outside the cemetery. Unfortunately the preservative finish is considered to be substandard and the clerk has already arranged for the suppliers to send replacement timbers.

The Pearce’s Lane sign has been removed by a householder who objected to its siting. The matter has been reported to the District Council and negotiations are going on to resite the sign.

District Council planning approval has been given for Mr. T. Dickinson to erect a single storey front extension at 10 Waggoners Way. The District Council has issued A Refusal of Certificate of Lawful Use to Mr Van Der Drift regarding use of land as a domestic garden adjacent to 5 Parker’s Place, Hanthorpe.

The Parish Council saw no reason to object to planning applications from A. Taylor to demolish a garage adjacent to 77 High Street; Mr. & Mrs. Middleton to add an outside staircase to a proposed garage at 71 Station Road and B. Lawrance to demolish a garage replace it with a double garage with pitched roof at 16a Edenham Road, Hanthorpe.

In response to an amended application from Larkfleet Homes, to erect 20 affordable homes on Bourne Road, the Council repeated its objections to the earlier application regarding siting of the development and A15 safety concerns.

After nearly two years of effort to persuade the Lincolnshire County Council to provide land for allotments it would seem that the Parish Council needs to look elsewhere again. Preferred sites identified by the Parish Council have been refused by the County and a piece offered was found to be unsuitable.

Mr Lewis’s proposal was discussed and councillors agreed to ask him to reconsider his suggested siting of the shelter. The Council would then give further consideration to the matter.

The clerk was asked to contact the Lincoln Diocesan Registrar to ask for advice on consecrating more ground for burial use. Councillors are disappointed with the quality of grass cutting in the village which is carried out by County Council contractors. The clerk was asked to write to complain about this problem, the poor condition of the Morton Fen Droves and also the grass cutting in the Churchyard.

The next meeting of the Council will be held on Tuesday 3rd August at the Church Hall, Morton, preceded by a public forum, commencing at 7.15pm

Terry Barnatt.

Clerk & R.F.O. Morton & Hanthorpe Parish Council.
