MORTON WI
JULY REPORT
On a beautiful
summer’s evening we met for a talk by Mr Graham Luesby entitled ‘A look
at Orchids’. Mr Luesby bought with him a wonderful display of orchids
to talk about. There are over 20,000 different species of which over
half are epiphytic – live in trees. The most common variety that is
sold in supermarkets and garden centres is Phalaenopsis, these can
flower all the year round. He said if we had any questions, to ask him
as he went along. At times the evening seemed more like ‘Gardener’s
Question Time’, but he patiently answered all our queries. Now we know
we know where we went wrong so in future our plants will blossom instead
of dying. It was a very enjoyable and informative evening.
The competition for a
pretty flower pot was won by Chris Austin, second Pat Simmons and third
Dorothy Mainwaring, the raffle was won by Diane Newton
Next months meeting
is ‘Drowned Villages’ by Barbara Allen, on 3rd August in the
Village Hall at 7.30. This is an open meeting and everybody is
welcome, men included. |
