December 2008 Report On a cold and dark December evening a select number of us (about 15) met as usual in the Village Hall but we had no speaker. The committee had decided that for a change we would all take part and speak about our favourite Christmas memories. Each of us had a turn in fact some had a few turns and it was good to relive the past, and how different Christmas was then to now. The stories were all totally different from being in hospital having a baby at Christmas to presents being hidden on top of wardrobes, to hand knitted presents and large dinners cooked on old fashioned ranges. It was a very enjoyable evening, we all like a bit of nostalgia! The competition was won by Pat Simmons, second came Diane Newton and third Marion Copley. The raffle by Pat Bailey and Joyce Lewis. Carol Concert The Carol Concert by the Salvation Army Band in Morton Village Hall on December 11th was a great success with a record attendance. The hall was packed and we were regally entertained by the Boston Band. There was a variety of items in the programme including audience participation in the carols, a great display of tambourine playing by some of the ladies of the band and a lovely solo guitar carol. The members of the audience were invited to have a go at the tambourine and several did though not quite with the success of the Salvation Army ladies! All in all a superb evening rounded off with refreshments at the end. Profits of £90 went to the Salvation Army. Our thanks to the Boston Salvation Army Band for a great evening. The next meeting is on January 6th and is a ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Mr Peter Ball. |
