| | Morton and Hanthorpe Women's Institute | A warm welcome awaits you at our meetings, which are held in the Village Hall at 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month.
The W.I. offers a programme of speakers and demonstrators on a wide variety of subjects as well as organising several activities, including the annual 'Pancake Flip' on Shrove Tuesday, a Carol Concert at Christmas, and the Village Show in September. The Show gives everyone in the Village, young and old alike, the opportunity to exhibit cookery, horticultural products and craftwork, aiming to foster the friendship and community spirit we value. | PANCAKE DAY 2008
The Pancake Day Coffee Morning (5th February 2008) was attended by 18 people plus Morton Pre School children, 8 contestants took part to see who could toss the pancake the highest and just as importantly, catch it. On a very windy day the skill was not to toss the pancake too high so the wind blew it off course, it was certainly most challenging. The winner after a closely fought contest was Diane Newton. Tina Barnatt, one of the organisers said, “We hold the competition to keep tradition alive and to have fun. It is a community event anyone who turns up can take part”. | Pancake Flip 2008 Participants Left to Right Tina Barnatt Margaret Lack Jean Lees Fiona Creasey Marion Copley Ann Colyer Diane Newton (Winner) |
