The Parish Church of St John the Baptist

The Church is part of the Ringstone in Aveland Group of Parishes, which includes: Dunsby, Hacconby, Kirkby Underwood and Rippingale. It is in the deanery of Aveland and Ness with Stamford, in the diocese of Lincoln, of the Church of England.

We offer the full range of services including "Infant Dedication", "Adult Baptism", "Funerals", "Christian Marriage", listening opportunities and home visits. We will be increasing our range of activities to cater for all in the forthcoming future.

The Parish Church of St. John The Baptist is an impressive medieval building mainly 14th and 15th centuries, with a central tower which is visible from the A15. "The Church resembles a miniature Cathedral", described as a handsome structure, by Joseph J. Davies in 1909, (History of Bourne and District), "lofty and beautifully proportioned". Well worth a visit, for whatever reason.

The Church is open each day to anyone for quiet reflection and prayer. Morning Prayer is offered on most days at 9.00am (9.30am Saturday) in the Chapel of Resurrection, (see the weekly notice sheet in the Church).
The Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the Chapel of Resurrection, and is a special place for prayer and quiet.
The Church has a votive candle stand, where candles may be lit, and prayers offered and left.
Intercession forms, an important part of the Church's life and requests for prayer may be made to any who are associated with the Church.

MORTON CHURCH FLOODLIGHTING

Have you noticed anything different about the floodlighting of Morton Parish Church?

Rising electricity prices, combined with concern about our carbon footprint have resulted in the floodlights coming on later and going off earlier.

Most people feel that the lighting is of positive community value, enhancing the image of the village to passers-by on the A15, as well as reminding folk of the God of love to whose glory the church was built.  But modern concerns about what we are doing to the planet also need to be addressed.  The present reduction in the use of floodlighting would seem to be a reasonable compromise.
