Morton Church of England Primary School ‘learning for all at the heart of our community’

Our school is a friendly, positive village school with high standards expected of the children within a caring, Christian ethos.

The school values partnership with parents, carers and the community to create a stimulating, learning environment for the children. We plan an active curriculum that aims to be vibrant, challenging and creative with clear skills progression for learning.

We are focussed on establishing greater links with the community around us; the village and our parish churches. Our recent OFSTED comments very favourably on our values and family ethos:

The school uses its small size to its advantage by promoting a strong family ethos.

A strong set of values underpins the school's work and leads to the outstanding   personal development of its pupils.

They respond well to the high expectations of teachers, and their behaviour is outstanding.

They value the 'happy and friendly school', and the 'strong sense of belonging' that is promoted.

Our Foundation Stage (for Reception children) was graded as Outstanding in all areas. Also, we were graded as Outstanding or Good in all inspected areas. For a small school, this is a real achievement.

However detailed information you may find online; nothing will replace a visit in reality! We welcome visitors to see our school in action.

Aims and Values

The children, staff and governors have written the following aims and values that encapsulate the ethos of the school.

• To provide effective learning through high quality teaching.

• To promote Christian values and encourage respect and understanding of other religions, races and ways of life.

• To respond positively as a school community to the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

• To provide a caring and creative environment in which everyone feels safe.

• To give each child the opportunity to reach their potential.

We believe that school is a place where children enjoy the challenge of learning. For our school community to thrive and grow we provide a stimulating and supportive environment that encourages all individuals to use their abilities to the full. Our school develops the whole child, academically, socially and spiritually, to enable them to progress with confidence.

The children have been very busy thinking about what we want our school to be.  They have thought of a recipe for a happy, effective and successful school.  The recipe is below:

Ingredients

several handfuls of trust

heaps of support

oodles of enthusiasm

a large sprinkling of laughter

ample lashings of teamwork

a huge chunk of respect

a vast galaxy of knowledge and skills

Method

We understand that different people believe different things and no one is better than anybody else.

Children and grown ups all learn together.

We are all given the chance to be the best that we can be.

We feel safe everywhere around school.

School Library
We are looking for donations of good quality picture books and books with a very low reading age for our school library. If you have any such books that could be enjoyed by the children, please drop them into the school office.

Admissions Policy
The Governors of Morton Church of England Primary School would like to draw the attention of the community to the following letter about changes to our admissions policy.

School Admission Policy Changes
The County Council has delegated to our Governing Body decisions on who is admitted into the school.  If the school is oversubscribed the governors apply the County Council oversubscription criteria.  These criteria are reviewed each year to make sure they are meeting the needs of the local community.

The way that the governors manage admissions, the timescales and the way the information is published are all laid down by central government in regulations.  The governors comply fully with these regulations and operate the admission policy in a fair and consistent manner.

This year the government has introduced a new regulation, which allows you to make a comment about our admission policy or any other school’s admission policy where your child is eligible to attend.  The governors welcome all comments and will meet to discuss them before they finalize the admission policy for 2010.

www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/admissionsconsultation

This site has all Lincolnshire school’s draft admission policies for 2010 and also tells you how to make a comment.   If you do not have access to the internet you can collect our admission policy from the school office. The final policies are then published on the same website in May 2009.

Provision of Childcare onsite at the school
At the school we have been consulting with parents as to the need for providing Out of School Provision. An Out of School Provision is a service offering quality, registered, affordable childcare to families who need this facility directly either before or after school due to various commitments, work or social.  Children take part in a variety of activities and interests in a safe stimulating environment.  Facilities such as these are developed to complement existing childcare provision that exists already within the community.

After a consultation with parents, we would now like to proceed and begin the process of setting up a childcare facility at the school. One of the necessary steps is to form a voluntary committee with representatives from all interested parties. The committee will be formed and appoint managers to run the facility. Therefore the committee will not be responsible for the day to day running of the club. If you are interested in being part of the committee, please contact the school (570389 or enquiries@morton.lincs.sch.uk
