Morton and Hanthorpe L.I.V.E.S.

Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service
Help Save Lives!  Knowing basic First Aid skills  could save someone's life!

In Morton and Hanthorpe we are privileged to have a First Responder Team within the Village. Formed in January 2000  the team were the 6th group to form in the county  and have since, to date, attended over 400 calls in support of the Lincolnshire Ambulance Service.
The Morton And Hanthorpe First Responder Team are a small group of dedicated volunteers, who are not only responding quickly to local victims but are willing to assist and train others in resuscitation techniques. Skills which when acquired and administered correctly save the lives of those nearest and dearest.

Every year there are 1,000 deaths from heart attacks without pre hospital care, in Lincolnshire the survival rate being 5%.
Using basic early life support and early defibrillation (an electric shock) to the heart, it is possible to increase the survival rate by over 30%. Heart attack victims must be attended and defibrillation started as soon as possible as survival drops by 10% every minute. After 8 minutes, survival is less than 5%.

Due to our rural county it is very difficult to get to patients within this 8 minute window. Thus trained community schemes are needed to attend victims as quickly as possible. Therefore L.I.V.E.S. in partnership with Lincolnshire Ambulance has launched an initiative, called the FIRST RESPONDER SCHEME to provide emergency care  in the community. Local trained volunteers operate a 24 hour emergency call out service, going out to patients with Cardiac Arrest, Breathing and Choking difficulties, Collapse and Chest Pains.
A local L.I.V.E.S.  First Responder can attend a victim within minutes after being alerted by the 999 Emergency Service.
It is these first few moments that could mean all the difference between the life and death of a loved one, friend or neighbour. Seconds which count before the arrival of the highly qualified Emergency services!!!
Alas the team is small and stretched; more supporters and trained First Responders are needed within our community if we are to continue giving the service that is so much needed by all. Remember, just a heartbeat and a breath of air makes a great difference. Please help us to save Lives
