George Hamilton IV

On Friday 6th March 2009 International Country singer George Hamilton IV came once again to the New Day Baptist Church and entertained live a packed audience of approximately 140 who foot tapped and sang along to a mixture of country and gospel songs, which included “Abilene” “Canadian Pacific” ,“Amazing Grace” and many more well known and much loved songs. Remembering the high fuel prices of 2008 his recording of “Gasoline” sung to the tune of “Abilene” brought smiles and laughter as we all sang along.

His relaxed presence and humour placed the audience at ease and the laughter echoed as he recalled stories of his family and the rise from his “hill-billy” roots where he was born in Winston – Salem, North Carolina, to appearing at the “Grand Ole Opry” and his home in Tennessee.

He spoke with sadness of the loss of some of the great Country Legends that appeared regularly at the “Grand Ole Opry” remembering them in his prayers, and the influence of certain, Canadian songwriters have had, in his choice of music.

Afterwards he spent time talking and posing for photographs with the many of the audience, signing covers of his latest CD’s and wishing them well. There is no doubt that the title bestowed upon him as the “World’s International Ambassador for Country Music” is well deserved

A Matter of Time by Rachel Parker

Rachel Parker has lived in Morton for over 8 years. She is married to Ellis and has two children. Before moving to Morton, she worked as a primary school teacher in Peterborough and still has a keen interest in education.

She is currently a Governor at Morton Church of England Primary school

“A Matter of Time’ is an entertaining work of fiction which should appeal to a wide audience. It is a compelling read which mixes the everyday with elements of science-fiction, adventure and romance.”

The story –.......

Still coping with her husband’s death, Anna Stevenson is struggling. No one seems to understand how hard it is to cope, and it’s no good looking for support from her selfish sister, who’s more interested in her new boyfriend than anything else.

However, with encouragement from her children and mother she starts to put her life back together.

After a dismal interview with the local technology college, she gets her dream job at the museum. The dusty halls and ancient artefacts are a perfect slave for the soul, even if she does keep running into that strange James Campbell.

But when her bracelet is found in an archaeological dig, she finds herself sucked into an adventure she never imagined possible.

Rachel says :

I started writing ‘A Matter of Time’ about three years ago. The idea, from start to finish, sprang into my head one evening and I decided to begin to write it down. This gave me great pleasure and, when I finally finished it, it also provided me with a huge sense of achievement.

I allowed a few close friends and family to read it and they all thoroughly enjoyed the story, urging me to get it in print. Consequently, I decided to self publish ‘A Matter of Time’ and dedicated it to my father, who died in 2005.

‘A Matter of Time’ can be purchased at Walkers Book Shops in Bourne or Stamford or can be bought online from various retailers such as Amazon or Waterstones.
